不能忘记这件事是一部战争片，《不能忘记这件事》描写了帝国主义运用各种阴谋手段，派间谍影响苏维埃乌克兰伟大作家的创作活动，破坏前俄罗斯与乌克兰两族人民的友好关系，通过广大人民的高度警惕和各部门的齐心协力，终于揭露了敌人的阴谋，并获得了最终的胜利。

The story unfolds in a post-war town in Western Ukraine. The enemy agents are trying to subvert communist writer Aleksandr Gavrish using ideological diversions. In parallel, a story is told about student Rostislav Danchenko who is being recruited by enemy agents. The story is pertinent due to resurgence of ultra-nationalist underground activity in Western Ukraine after the Great Patriotic war, known in the West as World War II.
